Kinja'd!!!

I bought a new phone yesterday... Nothing fancy, just an iPhone SE to replace my iPhone 5 that still somehow worked.

Setting this thing up is fun. First, I had to sign in to my Apple ID. I know my password because the App Store made me enter it constantly on my 5. Then, I had to enter answers for my security questions... I set my Apple account up oh... idunno... 12 years ago? Not a chance. I locked myself out of my account for 8 hours. Finally, today I miraculously got an answer correct and was able to get into my account. Win! Finally, the setup nightmare is over!

Now, let’s set up that annoying 2 factor authentication thing that my new phone keeps nagging me about. Password? Done. Security questions? Just changed them, so no problem. Oh, that’s not enough to prove it’s you! We simply need you to verify the credit card number you have on file with us. Oh, also- that credit card expired 2 years ago. Don’t have access to that card? Just click the little “I don’t have access to that card” link so we can tell you that you need to have access to that card and there’s no other way to proceed.

Once I figure that out, I’m sure it’s going to ask me to confirm the combination for my gym locker from 5th grade, followed by the tail number of the B-17 my grandpa flew.

I kinda want the SE, but so expensive.

$198 with a $45 credit added to my AT&T prepaid account... Sooo, basically $150. The SE is basically the body of an iPhone 5 with the guts of a 6s. It’s the bottom of the iPhone echelon.

Oops, I confused it with the X. That’s the one I want.

My daughter has an SE. Nice little phone. But the hoops Apple makes you jump through to set up your App Store access, iCloud, etc., it’s getting closer to M icrosoft levels of annoying.

I’m too much of a cheapass... hence why the SE replaced a very long-in-the-tooth 5 and I drive a 17 year old Chevy. Coworker s make fun of me because I have money but everything I have is old and cheap. They drive new cars and have thousand dollar phones, but they have empty bank accounts and rent apartments. Priorities!

I have issues with cheap unless it comes to my vehicle, guns or cigars.

I used my apple ID to set up my daughters SE, then it cloned the phone to mine so she is getting text messages from my co-workers and friends and sees everything I send. So I had to go to my phone and say hey lets not include that phone with my account anymore. Fuck apple you make is so hard.

I buy nice vehicles at the bottom of the depreciation curve, then I take good care of them. I don’t really do beaters, but most people just think old=beater. My gun purchases are so spaced out that I can buy nice things, and after quitting cigarettes a few years back, cigars aren’t a road I want to start back down.

I just don’t ever want to make payments on anything but a house.

I bought a Tacoma, so that’s where I’m at on the depreciation curve haha.

Guns I buy once a year. Just depends on what I’m into at the time.

I’ve had an SE for just shy of two years. Bottom of the barrel model, too. It replaced a second-hand 4 that I’d been using, and that met it’s death on a rainy lost-in-the-woods misadventure that saturated literally everything on my person, despite the Otter Box on it. I really wouldn’t want a different phone. The Six and up are just too big. Once you stick a decent case on them you’ll never get one into your pocket.

Tacomas leave the factory at the bottom of their depreciation curve.

I’m at about one every 3 years. I’m probably going to spend the next 3 years piecing together an AR from an 80% lower.

I’ve got giant hands, so bigger would be nice. But, I can’t fathom spending upwards of $700 on a phone. The 6 is bigger and still available, but it’s pretty slow. The SE has better specs, and I didn’t have to buy a new case!

I pray my daughter never sees the messages my coworkers send...

Haha, I’m trying to build an AR eventually but for the time being my M&P 15 Sport II is sufficient.

Lukewarm take: The SE is Apple’s best iPhone because it’s the only one that’s still a reasonable size. And clearly they realize this because they’ve quietly updated the SE’s specs at least twice to keep it current enough to still be saleable.

You know what they say about men with big hands...

Big nostrils!

Mine was $0 on contract, roughly $250 I think over two years based on how my plan went up. My carrier ’s now trying to get me to upgrade because the phone’s paid off. Don’t know if that’ll happen. I could still go to the 32GB SE which would be a small bump from my 16GB, but I don’t know that’s worth the $20. Plus I’d likely be forced to upgrade beyond iOs 9 which no thanks.

iOS 11 seems to be doing well on this one, and I’m hopeful Apple will stop slowing down their older phones now that they’ve been called out for their shenanigans.

Speed isn’t really the thing I’m concerned about. It’s the bloat of “features” which I don’t need or want.

I’m the opposite of other commenters; my LG with a 5.3 inch display was too small for me, and so was the X. That’s why I got an 8+.

And don’t forget that the SE still has a headphone port.
